KUALA LUMPUR, June 1 – Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said today upgrading the quality of governance and integrity across all segments are among new focus areas of the government.
The Prime Minister also said the government will intensify efforts in fighting corruption and abuse of power.
Najib said to prove the government’s seriousness in addressing governance, integrity and corruption, it has developed a comprehensive integrity plan that cross borders.
“I will announce the details of the implementation of this plan soon,” he said in his speech to congratulate Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah in conjunction with his birthday and presentation of federal awards and medals at Istana Negara.
The Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tuanku Hajah Haminah also attended the ceremony. Also present were the Prime Minister’s wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and cabinet ministers.
The Prime Minister said the government will not be thrifty in efforts to improve the quality of governance and integrity and the other commitments.
“The people have spoken and voiced the priority that should be championed by your majesty’s government. Our duty and responsibility is to discharge the trust in the best way.”
Najib was sworn in as Prime Minister on May 6 after Barisan Nasional (BN) was returned to power by winning 133 of 222 seats in parliament to form a new federal government post 13th general election (GE13).
In the next five years, the government will improve implementation of the National Transformation Policy to ensure sustained economic growth, reduce inflation and cost of living, low unemployment rate and control the crime rate.
In addition, it will ensure equal access to quality education, narrow the infrastructure and income gap between urban and rural people, ensure healthy foreign and domestic investment rate and increase competitiveness.
“All these plans will not be successful without the support of all Malaysians. It should not be the government agenda alone and we should make it the mission of all parties. “Let us chart a new and beter future together for us and our children,” added Najib.
