UNE 4- Two leading Kannada film actors are courting trouble for being “close friends” of disgraced cricketer Shanthakumaran Sreesanth, who has been arrested for “spot-fixing” in IPL T20 tournament.
Bangalore-based multilingual actor Sanjjanaa Archana and another leading actor, who have been allegedly seen in the company of Sreesanth on several occasions, are likely to be interrogated by the Mumbai police.
“The Mumbai police have collected preliminary information about 3 actores, who are popular in Kannada films, and Telugu movies. We have furnished the information to them. There are indications that these actores might be summoned for questioning because of their proximity to Sreesanth,” a senior police officer, said.
Sanjjanaa Archana (photo) is a regular at the IPL post-match parties. She has been seen in the company of Sreesanth on several occasions. There were even rumours that Sanjjanaa was dating Sreesanth after the two were caught on camera dancing intimately at a discotheque in Goa in 2009.
However, Sanjjanaa brushed aside all those rumours claiming that she never dated Sreesanth.
“Our meeting in Goa was blown out of proportion by the media. I never dated Sreesanth. Of course I have bumped into him subsequently. But we were never really close friends. I am disgusted with this whole IPL spot-fixing scandal,” she said.
The actor, who has delivered multiple hit movies in Kannada, Telugu and Malayalam, also denied that the police had questioned her on IPL spot-fixing scandal.
“Look, so far, neither the police nor any other law enforcement agencies have asked me anything about it so far. I am sure that that they are aware of the truth,” she maintained.
Many Bangalore-based actores, such as, Ragini Dwivedi, Shwetha Shrivastva, Harshika Poonachcha and others have been appearing as cheerleaders for the IPL matches conducted in Bangalore.
Many of them are said to be close friends of Sreesanth. Now, many of them are trying to distance themselves from the IPL and the cricketer fearing damage to their image.
