Also present were Ahmad Shabery’s deputy, Datuk Jailani Johari, and ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Kamaruddin Siaraf.
The Pesona Pictures Sdn Bhd film, in collaboration with Finas, tells the story of second prime minister Tun Abdul Razak Hussein and his deputy, Tun Dr Ismail Abdul Rahman, in healing the nation after the May 13, 1969 tragedy.
Made in 2011, the movie was approved by the Film Censorship Board with PG13 certificate, and scheduled to be aired on Nov 15, last year.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Shabery told reporters that the ‘Tanda Putera’ screening was previously postponed due to certain controversial aspects at the time. Thus, the Cabinet decided not to run the film for a while, he said.
As the controversy had ended and the general elections are over, he said the film should be screened.
“I think ‘Tanda Putera’ is a product of our filmmakers which should be seen from the perspective of art…on the question of how people view perspective, it is based on their interpretation.
“Most importantly, we want more local films screened in this country, and whether they could be marketed outside the country,” he said.
