SINGAPORE, June 10- The Indonesian Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly, Taufik Kiemas, passed away Saturday evening at the Singapore General Hospital.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong telephoned the late Speaker Taufik’s wife, former President of Indonesia Megawati Soekarnoputri, the same day to express condolences on the passing of her late husband.
Prime Minister Lee expressed his sadness at the late Speaker’s passing, and said that his thoughts were with Megawati and her family.
The ministry also extended its condolences to Megawati and her family, the People’s Consultative Assembly and the government and people of Indonesia.
