Johor bahru, June 15 – Johor State Executive Councillor in charge of Tourism, Trade and Consumer Affairs Datuk Tee Siew Kiong has resigned from all MCA posts, retaining only his lifetime membership.
In a statement here today, Tee said he resigned to prevent some party members from further exploiting the matter of his appointment to Johor state executive council.
“I regret that some party members had made my appointment an issue, targeting not just me but at the same time aim to destory the party’s unity.
“However, I will never leave the party because I have been a part of this big family for more than 30 years,” he said.
Tee has resigned as national organising secretary, presidential council member, central committee member, election steering committee member, Johor MCA state liaison committee member, Johor MCA election steering committee deputy chairman and Pontian MCA division chairman.
He will be attending an MCA disciplinary committee hearing on June 17 to explain his acceptance of the Johor executive councillor’s post.
Tee stressed that as a Johor citizen, he could not defy the royal command of the Sultan.
“The royal command of the Sultan had mentioned that there must be multiracial representation in the state government, so I was ordered to represent the Chinese community,” he said.
He also said he did not oppose the party’s decision to reject all government posts if it failed to perform better in the last general election.
However, MCA fared worse in the 13th General Election on May 5 than in the 2008 general election.
