KOTA KINABALU, June 17- Sabah MIC has endorsed incumbent MIC president Datuk G Palanivel and deputy president Datuk Dr S Subramaniam to defend their respective posts in the party polls next year.
Sabah MIC liaison chief Datuk V Jothi said the MIC members in the state had made it clear their stand that “there should not be a contest for the two top posts”.
“Sabah MIC endorses and fully supports the leadership of Datuk G Palanivel and Datuk Dr S Subramaniam. Let them continue as president and deputy president (uncontested)…that is Sabah MIC’s stand,” he told reporters after chairing the State MIC liaison meeting in Kepayan, near here today.
Jothi said this was necessary to avoid disunity in the party, saying ‘unity is the key to success”.
“We do not want to rock the boat…we want a smooth sail. We just had our general election and soon our party’s election, and there should not be a split in the party,” he said.
Apart from that, Sabah MIC believed such a stand would ensure that MIC would grow stronger and become a force to be reckoned with in the next general election, he said.
Jothi said the Sabah MIC meeting also discussed the fate of Indians who had earlier applied for Permanent Residence (PR) status here as they had lived in Sabah for over four decades.
