PUTRAJAYA, June 19- Police are discussing with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) aimed at coordinating actions on social media users found insulting Prophet Muhammad in their comments.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said even though the matter was under the jurisdiction of MCMC, coordination was required to facilitate police in putting up the charges against those involved according the specific acts.
According to him, if quick action was not taken against those involved, comments which insulted the position of Prophet Muhammad would lead to interference in Islam as the federation’s official religion.
He was speaking at a media conference after a meeting with members of the Quran Printing Control and Licencing Board (LPPPQ) as well as the Al-Quran Texts Review and Assessment committee (Lajnah Tasheh) here.
Ahmad Zahid said in the meeting today, he decided to get LPPPQ and Lajnah as advisors on religious affairs to the ministry.
“This is because we want to streamline aspects of legislation enforced by all departments and agencies under the Home Ministry so that they are in line with existing syariah laws at federal and state levels,” he said.
He said the two bodies were also told to give input and advice on the Islamic religion education module for Muslim prisoners throughout the country to provide them with a foundation on religion to facilitate their acceptance by the community.
Ahmad Zahid said KDN was still detecting groups who imported Al-Quran printed abroad which have not been reviewed and verified by Lajnah Tasheh.
He said without any assessment by LPPPQ and Lajnah Tasheh of KDN, Al-Quran printed overseas might have incorrect spellings and leading to wrongly translated meaning.
It was learnt that this year, 850 copies of Al-Quran printed abroad had been seized as soon as they arrived at the KL International Airport, Port Klang and Johor Baharu as they did not have the KDN approval, with 80 per cent of them being brought from Indonesia and the balance from Thailand.
Meanwhile on rumours circulated by several bloggers and news portal on the meeting between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak with PKR leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Indonesia recently, Ahmad Zahid flatly denied it.
“As far as I know, although all three of us were there (in Indonesia), we did not meet. I wish to deny the meeting between Najib and Anwar or that I was with them at the meeting,” he said, adding that the three of them had different programmes when in Indonesia.
The news portal among others reported that Zahid was tasked with arranging a meeting between Najib and Anwar when in Indonesia.- —
