Six Rajasthan hill forts placed in UNESCO’s world heritage list

JAIPUR (Rajasthan) June 23- Six hill forts in north Indian state of Rajasthan have been included in United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO)’s World Heritage List, Press Trust of India (PTI) reported.

The forts are Amber, Chittorgarh, Gangron, Jaisalmer, Kumbhalgarh and Ranthambore.

Six-Rajasthan“The selection of these forts, located in different cities as a serial cultural property, is the first of its kind ever by UNESCO,” Rajasthan Tourism Minister Bina Kak told reporters here.

“With their selection, the six forts will receive enhanced international recognition; this selection will also pave way for other monuments to be nominated in the World Heritage List,” she said.

Selection of the forts was made during the 37th Meeting of the World Heritage Committee in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on Friday.

Built between 18th and 19th centuries, the forts portray an excellent example of Rajput military hill architecture found in palaces, temples, memorials and villages.
