PUTRAJAYA, June 28- Several improvements should be done to Perlis Herbal Forest Park so that it can be upgraded to National Tropical Herbal Tourism Village, said Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail.
He said this was because the park had its own specialties, including over 1,000 plant species, such as wild plants, as well as medicinal plants and herbs originated from other countries.
“Among the famous herbs are Tongkat Ali, Kacip Fatima, cekur, ginger, lemon grass, noni, basil and cinnamon,” he said in a media statement issued during his visit to the Putrajaya Floria 2013 at the Waterfront, Precinct 2, here today.
Also present were Raja Puan Muda of Perlis Tuanku Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil and Putrajaya Corporation president Tan Sri Aseh Che Mat.
Tuanku Syed Faizuddin said the Perlis Herbal Forest Park had also been the centre of reference for various kinds of herbal species from Malaysia, Africa, Papua New Guinea, Mexico, Singapore, Myanmar and Thailand.
“The park is also the processing centre for Misai Kucing tea products,” he said.
Tuanku Syed Faizuddin said if the park could be upgraded to National Tropical Herbal Tourism Village, it would also become a major tourist attraction in the state and thus, help boost the socio-economic development of the local residents.
For the record, the Perlis Herbal Forest Park is Malaysia’s first herbal park introduced by the Forestry Department.
