BANGKOK, June 28 – Thailand on Thursday gave US$100,000 in aid to India for flood relief and rehabilitation efforts following the recent floods in north Indian state of Uttarakhand, Press Trust of India (PTI) reported.
Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul met Indian Ambassador to Thailand, Anil Wadhwa at the Thai Foreign Office to express sympathy and condolences on behalf of the Thai government and citizens for the loss of lives, property and devastation caused by the floods.
At the meeting, Tovichakchaikul also handed over a condolence message to his Indian counterpart.
Last week, Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej conveyed his message of condolence to Indian President Pranab Mukherjee over the loss of lives and damage caused by the floods.
“The Queen and I are deeply saddened by reports of devastating floods which have caused immense loss of human lives and heavy damage to infrastructure and property in the northern part of your country,” the message read.
Uttarakhand, popular for its holy shrines and rivers, was hit by monsoon floods on June 16.
The floods have killed thousands and left many displaced and stranded in the mountains.
