SHAH ALAM, July 1- – Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim today urged couples who marry this year to register their names at any of the 56 community service centres in the state to receive the marriage incentive of RM200 each.

He said the incentive was only for couples aged 35 and below and they must be Selangor-born or having resided in Selangor for at least 15 years.

“They should register at the community service centre after three months of the solemnisation of their marriage for Muslim couples or after havingregistered their marriage with the National Registration Department for non-Muslim couples.

Abdul Khalid Ibrahim“By registering, the state goverment would have the data to provide them with additional aid like from the Tabung Warisan Anak Selangor (TAWAS) when they have children, as well as identify candidates eligible to purchase affordable houses to be built by the state government,” he said after handing out the marriage incentive to more than 100 couples, here, yesterday.

Khalid said so far, only 170 couples had registered with the state government to receive the incentive.

He said under the first phase of the programme, each registered couple would receive RM400 and the amount would be increased to RM500 in future.

Khalid said for Muslim couples, the incentive would be channelled through their Lembaga Tabung Haji savings account and for non-Muslim couples, through the Bank Simpanan Nasional Premiunm Savings Certificate.

“This is to encourage them to have the saving habit for their own and their children’s future,” he said.

Khalid said each year, Selangor recorded more than 25,000 couples tying the knot, with Malays making up about 18,000 of them.
