JULY 1- For us north Indians, Dhanush was Kolaveri Di star. But clearly there’s more to Dhanush than we thought.
The sensational song, which looked like a freak hit, catapulted Dhanush to super stardom of a very different kind. Dhanush does not fall into the six pack trinity of Khans or the Kapoors or a certain Kumar of Bollywood, instead he creates a category of his own. He exudes a charm of the ordinary, he plays the role of a love-struck boy with immense nobility and panache.
He is not fair and dashing but dark with simple, honest looks. With this boyish charm he captured millions of hearts as unpretentious, love-struck Kundan in Raanjhanaa. Being the damaad of legendary south icon Rajinikanth, he has no airs about him, he accepts life as it is and exudes charm even in ordinariness.
Not many know that that Ranjhanaa is Dhanush’s 26th film, he might be a newcomer in Bollywood, but he is a veteran when it comes to acting. Dhanush has been a star down south. He has acted in 25 films, all hits.
In an interview during Raanjhanaa’s promotion, he said, “I don’t like being compared with Rajnikanth. He’s a legend.”
“This is not my first film, I have done 25 films in the south and most of them have been super hits, so don’t think I’m a newcomer in films.”
We cannot agree more. With Raanjhanaa, Dhanush has become a phenomenon, of a different kind. He demands no special treatment and wants people to see him the way he is.
