GEORGE TOWN, July 8- Second Division Commander Major-General Datuk Muhd Shukuri Ahmad today refuted the claim by Deputy Chief Minister II P.Ramasamy that the Chinese and Indian communities have no opportunity to hold key positions in the security forces.
He said the allegation was not true and that all officers were given equal opportunity and treatment to hold key positions in the security forces.
“This is a misperception. If we look at the hierarchy of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), there are some (from the Chinese and Indian communities) who are holding the ranks of three stars (generals).
“So, this is not an issue, …be careful before making any statement,” he told reporters after delivering his first command at the Parade Ground of the Tun Razak Camp, in Bayan Lepas, near here today.
When winding up the debate on the speech by the Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas at the State Assembly sitting last Friday, Ramasamy claimed that the Chinese and Indian communities did not have any opportunity to hold key positions in the police and armed forces.
Earlier, Muhd Shukuri in his first command outlined five thrusts, namely preparedness for battle, unity and leadership, professionalism, quality of life and relations between the military and civilians to further strengthen the capability of the security forces.
He called on all members of the 2nd Division to appreciate these five thrusts besides being ever ready to serve the nation.
On May 21, Muhd Shukuri took over the duty of 2nd Division Commander from Major-General Datuk Azizan Md Delin who has been appointed as the Army Chief of Staff at the Defence Ministry.
