KUALA BESUT, July 18- The sweltering weather had not deterred the Barisan Nasional (BN) Youth to play their part in wooing particularly young voters to support the BN candidate in the Kuala Besut by-election on July 24.
Its Chief, Khairy Jamaluddin said support for the BN from young voters was very encouraging. “As it is the fasting month, we don’t carry out major campaigns but just go house-to-house.
We find this to be very effective and we hope to reach the young voters who are our target, through this approach,” he told reporters while participating in a motorcycle convoy with 100 other BN Youth members at Kampung Seberang Barat here.
Khairy who is also Youth and Sports minister also expressed confidence that the voters’ positive response towards Tengku Zaihan Che Ku Abd Rahman as the BN candidate would translate into a big majority for the party.
“Thank God they are very happy with the choice of a professional and humble person who is prepared to serve the people here,” he said.
Nevertheless, he cautioned the wing against overconfidence despite the area’s status as a BN stronghold.
Meanwhile, the Rembau MP said he expected the campaign pace which was low key compared to the period during the 13th general election, to pick up come Friday with more cabinet members joining in when the latest parliament session ends tomorrow.
The Kuala Besut by-election following the death of former assemblyman Dr A. Rahman Mokhtar on June 26 will see a straight fight between Tengku Zaihan, 37, and PAS candidate Endot@Azlan Yusof, 48.
