Datuk-Dr-James-Dawos-MamitKUALA LUMPUR, July 22 – The Indonesian government has not provided any verification yet of the possibility of Malaysian companies having been responsible for the open burning in Indonesia that contributed to the trans-boundary haze last month, the Dewan Negara was told Monday.

Deputy National Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Dr James Dawos Mamit said the Indonesian government also had not prosecuted any Malaysian company in the matter.

hazeDawos was replying to a question from Senator Chandra Mohan who had asked whether companies from Malaysia were involved in the open burning in Indonesia during the haze crisis recently and to state the name of the companies and the action to be taken against them.

The deputy minister said the Malaysian fisheries sector recorded a loss of RM1.2 million that affected 3,285 fishermen during the haze last month.
