“We always believed that Toronto is the perfect platform to launch the film to international audiences,” Singh said.

The film is directed by Justin Chadwick and portrays Mandela’s amazing legacy , his life and the freedom movement — a story of soaring inspiration and human suffering.

The film is authorised by Mandela, with the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory having provided research and archival support.

The actors who will play Mandela in the film are Siza Pini as the eight-year-old leader, Atandwa Kani as a 16-year-old and Idris Elba in the remaining years.

The latest news came as Mandela spent his 48th day in hospital for a recurring lung infection on Friday.

He remains in a critical condition although his health has shown sustained improvement, the government said earlier this week.
