Pakistan proposes to restart dialogue process with India

JULY 29- The new Pakistani government headed by Nawaz Sharif has proposed to restart composite dialogue with India but New Delhi is yet to agree to the proposal, newspaper reports said on Sunday.

Talks with Pakistan over water sharing got stalled earlier this year in reaction to ceasefire violations on the Line of Control.

One report quoted an unnamed Indian government official saying there were some proposals from Pakistan for resumption of dialogue and dates were being worked out.

Pakistan wants a meeting between foreign secretaries of the two countries.

Pakistan’s request also has a list of dates for the government-level dialogues in Islamabad.

According to the report, the Sharif government wants talks on water in August and on Sir Creek in September and all goes well, a meeting of foreign secretaries in October.

It even wants Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to visit Pakistan.

Manmohan Singh is anyways set to meet Sharif in New York during the UN General Assembly in September.

Another report said India agreeing to the talks could hinge on Pakistan agreeing to ensure week-by-week hearing in the 26/11 case and also granting the neighbour the Most Favoured Nation (MFN) status.
