KOTA KINABALU, July 29 – The Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism is always responsive to the need for subsidised diesel by the rakyat.
In a statement today, the ministry said it has fixed a monthly quota of subsidised diesel for the oil companies based on the trend of the usage.
“However, if there is a need for an increase in the quota, the ministry, in cooperation with the Finance Ministry, will always consider the requests,” it said.
Based on the current situation and the results of the discussions with the oil companies, the ministry has approved an additional quota of 24.196 million litres of diesel nationwide and the supply to the petrol stations which experienced shortages, especially in Sabah, has begun, it said.
This increase was in addition to the 25.787 million litres which were approved earlier, it said.
“The ministry and the oil firms had not expected the increase in diesel demand. All the petrol stations that experienced the shortage are expected to get their supply today, or by the latest tomorrow,” it said.
The ministry hoped that with the additional quota it will end the shortage problem.
