PUTRAJAYA, July 31- The Health Ministry has published two books with the cooperation of Intekma Resort and Shah Alam Convention Centre on healthy eating habits during Aidilfitri.
Its minister, Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said the books entitled ‘Menu Sihat Rumah Terbuka Hari Raya Aidilfitri’ (healthy menu for Aidilfitri) and ‘Makan Secara Sihat di Hari Raya’ (healthy eating during hari raya).
He said the failure to adopt a healthy lifestyle resulted in 1.7 million Malaysians aged 18 years and above becoming vulnerable to non-communicable diseases (NCD) like diabetes, hypertension and obesity.
The books, which will be distributed to health clinics throughout the country, contain recipes using natural ingredients and less sugar, salt and cooking oil, he told a news conference on healthy eating during Aidilfitri here yesterday.
Subramanian said the books also recommended eating grains, vegetables, fruits, fish, chicken, meat, milk, and less fatty and oily ingredients, sugar and salt.
“Also, limit yourself to 500 calories at each meal, reduce high-fat foods such as rendang, lemang and lontong, sweet foods such as cakes, and sugary drinks,” he said.
The healthy eating guidelines are posted on the ministry’s website www.moh.gov.my.
