peru_mapLIMA, July 31 – Non-traditional exports to countries that have a free trade agreement (FTA) with Peru rose 6.5 per cent in 2012 compared to a year earlier, Peru’s export and tourism promotion board (PromPeru) said.

PromPeru said that the increase came from fresh grapes and fresh asparagus, which were driven by the entry into force of the FTA with the United States.

In 2008, exports of grapes totalled US$18 million and after the free trade agreement with the US, they reached US$36 million in 2009 and US$53 million in 2012.

Shipments of mandarin to Canada, which has a FTA with Peru since August 2009, amounted to US$11 million in 2012.
