KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 3- Federal Territory Umno will fully support incumbents Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to retain the president and deputy president’s post at the party election in October, said its Liaison chief Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan.
He said, however, the members wanted the posts of vice-presidents to be contested.
“The Federal Territory Umno Liaison Committee will fully support Najib and Muhyiddin as president and deputy-president. That is no problem. But for the posts of vice-presidents, from what we found out, they (party members) want contests.
“As secretary-general (of Umno), I hope, if possible, we can retain Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussien and Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal as vice presidents,” he said when breaking fast with Muhyiddin here Friday.
Also present were Federal Territory Umno Liaison Committee deputy chairman Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin, secretary Datuk Syed Ali Al-Habshee and Titiwangsa Member of Parliament Datuk Johari Abdul Ghani.
Meanwhile, Tengku Adnan, who is also Federal Territories Minister, said the slogan ‘So long as not Umno’ which was used by the opposition to oppose the party was ineffectual and rejected by the Malay community.
“Not ‘So long as not Umno’, it is actually ‘God bless Umno,” he said to loud applause from those present.
The Putrajaya Member of Paliament said this was proven when Umno won 88 seats in the 13th general election compared to 79 seats in 2008, and in fact, could still retain the Kuala Besut state sate by a bigger majority in by-election recently.
