PEKAN, Aug 5- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said whatever change wanted by the people should be a carefully planned and organised change for their own betterment and the nation’s.

He said destroying the things they were enjoying just for the sake of change, would not promise anything better.

“If we decide to bring down what we have built, we don’t know whether it (the replacement) will be better than what we are enjoying now,” he said in his speech at the presentation of Aidilfitri contributions to senior citizens of Kampung Marhum, here, Sunday.

The prime minister said in certain countries where there were rallying cries for change, like the opposition in Malaysia with their slogan, “ubah” (change), it was clear now that the people in those countries were not enjoying the real meaning of change, but turmoil and civil war instead.

“If people want change, change that is carefully planned, organised and effected is more secure compared to destroying what we have built,” he said.

najib-razak-newNajib said the prevailing stability, prosperity and peace in this country had enabled the people to lead a normal life.

“The stability has enabled us to continue earning a living to bring up our children and to educate them. Our situation has become better, so we should preserve what we have.

“Destroying or bringing down what we have can be done in the blink on an eye but building them takes generations and what we are enjoying now are the fruit of the struggles of our past leaders,” he said.

At the function, the prime minister also approved an allocation to build a new mosque in the village.

“It is up to the mosque committee to build the mosque at the old or a new site,” he added.

The 70 elderly recipients received cash and essential items to celebrate Raya.

Hasmah Mahmud, 73, said she was touched and grateful for the contributions she received and thanked the prime minister for it.

While Hasmah had received such Raya contributions in the past, it was the first time for Mohd Nor Abdul Manaf, 64, as a senior citizen.

He said the contributions would help lighten his burden of spending for the Aidilfitri celebration.
