KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7 – Malaysians of all races and religious faiths should use the festive season to further strengthen bonds of friendship, inter-racial and inter-religious harmony in the true spirit of 1Malaysia.
1Malaysia Foundation trustee Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said Malaysia was unique that the festive occasion of one ethnic group was also celebrated by other ethnic groups and this has made it a truly multi-racial occasion.
“Building understanding and respect among various religions based on the provisions in the Federal Constitution and the Rukun Negara is the key to peace and harmony in a multi-racial and multi-religious country like Malaysia,” he said in his Hari Raya Aidilfitri message.
Respect for one another’s religion has been the hallmark of our multiracial society and it is the duty of each and every Malaysian irrespective of race and religion to keep building it, he said.
“National unity is the key to the success of the nation. As such, Malaysians should use every opportunity to strengthen the spirit of unity through greater inter-action with one another in all spheres of human activities,” he said.
Therefore, he said efforts must be made by everyone to promote a culture of peace, harmony and unity.
