PETALING JAYA, Aug 13- The 1Malaysia Indian Student Movement(1MISM) has organised a ‘Merdeka Video’ contest for Indian students in conjunction with Malaysia’s 56-th independence day.

1MISM president D. Mahaganapathy said the contest was aimed at instilling patriotic values and encourage tertiary students to showcase their talents through a short film by utilising the latest information and communication technology.

“The contest will provide a platform to express their patriotism in creative ways,” he told a press conference on the contest here today.

He said an interesting range of prizes, including smart phones and cameras, awaited the winners.

Mahaganapathy also announced the ‘Student Activity Recognition Awards’ (Star Awards 2.0), another contest which would be held simultaneously with the ‘Merdeka Video’.

“The objective of the Star Awards is to recognise tertiary students for their efforts and involvement in achieving extra-curricular activities through an association or club,” he said.

It is divided into 12 categories and open to organisations, clubs or associations in a public and private institution of higher learning with a cash prize of RM12,000.

Representatives of institutions may nominate their activities by downloading the forms from the 1MISM Face book page and submitting it by Aug 28 2013.
