KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 15- Acupuncture using bee sting, which is popular in China, is actually available in Malaysia.

A bee farm operator, Shaiful Hizam Harman, introduced the alternative treatment at his house since early last year.

Shaiful, 40, believes in the potential of the bees for treatment and that they are not reared just for honey after doing his research on the bees and studying the Quran.

“This therapy is known as Apitherapy and I also use bees from Italy, from the Apis mellifera species,” he told Bernama in Kuala Lumpur, Wednesday.

specialtreatments02A newspaper reported that the bee sting therapy was becoming popular in China and an estimated 27,000 people had sought the treatment, which is claimed could prevent cancer.

Shaiful charged RM10 for a bee which he said was to replace the bee which would die after it is used to sting the patient.

“It is cheap compared with the charge in Indonesia which is about RM35 for a bee,” he said.

Shaiful hopes to open a clinic in Danau Kota soon to make it easy for the public to get the bee sting therapy.

He also conducts various courses to expose the public to the secrets of bees and honey. The courses are held on Saturday and the fee is RM350 per person.

Shaiful can be reached at 012-3061972 or through his blog carambolabeefarm.blogspot.com.

A nursery operator, Hamidi Nawi, 45, said he went for the bee sting therapy three times and claimed that since then the pain in his knee, which he had been suffering for years, disappeared.
