JELEBU, Aug 19- Deputy head of the Jelebu UMNO division Datuk Jalaludin Alias said he is willing to take over the post of Jelebu division head vacated by Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim.
The State Exco member and Pertang Assemblyman said Rais, who is also the Advisor to the Government on Socio-Culture, had actually disclosed this (his decision not to defend the post of Jelebu UMNO head) at the Jelebu division committee meeting recently.
“So, as the UMNO division deputy head I thought it was time for me to take over the post so that I can continue to manage the UMNO division.
“I hope to get the support of all the leaders at the branch level and division level including the Wanita, Youth and Puteri wings,” he told reporters when met at his Aidilfitri open house at the Simpang Pertang public field, Saturday night.
He disclosed this when asked on the announcement by Rais that he would not be defending his post as the Jelebu UMNO division head at the party election this time.
Jalaludin said as the deputy head and having served the division for quite some time, he thanked Rais for his deeds and contribution toward the people and development especially in Jelebu.
On the possibility of a contest for the post, he said anyone could contest but what was important was that it should be conducted in a healthy manner without causing any split during the election.
