Jamaican PM To Visit China


BEIJING, Aug 20 – Jamaican Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller will visit China from Tuesday to Sunday at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.

Portia-Simpson-Miller-Jam-007Simpson Miller, 68, had served as Minister of Labour, Social Security and Sport, and Minister of Local Government through the years.

In 2006, she was elected leader of the People’s National Party and became prime minister. She stepped down in the next year after her party lost the general election.


She led her party back to power in the 2011 election and became prime minister again.

Simpson Miller maintains a friendly policy toward China.

She attended the World Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995 and visited China again in 2009 as Jamaica’s opposition leader.
