KOTA KINABALU, Aug 21 – Kudat Wanita UMNO is backing State Minister of Community Development and Consumer Affairs Datuk Jainab Ahmad to go for a seat in the women’s executive committee at the party elections in October.
Its head, Datin Aminah Ambrose, said Jainab had long been a member of the state assembly and had the experience of having been state Wanita UMNO secretary for almost two terms.
“She is also a member of the Sabah Cabinet in charge of women and consumer affairs,” she told reporters in Kota Kinabalu, Tuesday.
Aminah said that based on initial discussions with several Wanita UMNO division heads in Sabah, Jainab had their unanimous support for a seat in the Wanita UMNO executive committee.
On the possibility of two other Sabah UMNO leaders vying for the post of Wanita UMNO vice-chief, thus affecting Jainab’s chances, she said several states were also putting up multiple candidates for various posts in the women’s movement and it was a healthy competition.
