COPENHAGEN (Denmark), Aug 21 – The number of people with diabetes is expected to rise from 371 million in 2012 to 550 million by 2030, said President of the World Diabetes Foundation Anders Dejgaard here.
In a training session on Monday for 35 journalists from Africa, South America, Asia and Arab countries, Dejgaard warned against the increase in the number of people with diabetes, indicating that current number impacts on the States’ budgets particularly those with low and middle revenues.
While referring to the report of the World Diabetes Foundation (FID) of 2012 on the situation in the world, the official said that the western region of the Pacific Ocean tops the international ranking with 132 million cases followed by the south-eastern region of Asia with 70 million cases.
Dejgaard did not exclude the European continent which recorded 58 million cases as well as Northern America and the Caribbean (38 million) during the same period.
The North African region is ranked fourth with 34 million people with diabetes in 2012 followed by Central and Latin America with 24 million and finally the African continent (15 million).
