NUSAJAYA, Aug 21 – About 80 per cent or 560 of the 700 workers at the Legoland Malaysia theme park, which opened in September last year, are from Johor, State Human Resources and Unity Committee chairman R. Vidyanathan said today.
He said 10 per cent were from Sabah and Sarawak and the rest from the other states.
“The recruitment from the numerous races, communities and religions is very important to ensure that operations are not disrupted as the park will not be closed even during festive holidays,” he said.
He also said that the staff from the various races reflected the racial unity in the country and foreign tourists visiting the park were introduced to the concept of 1Malaysia.
The Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) had solicited feedback on the types of job and skill needed a year before its opening to ensure that local-born had the opportunity to get employed at the park.
The salaries were quite high compared to other areas in the state as the park was of international stature, he said in response to a supplementary question from Dr Boo Cheng Hau (DAP-Skudai).
