JOHOR BAHARU, Sept 19- Legoland Malaysia, with the scheduled opening of its water theme park next month and the 249-room hotel in 2014, is set to become the premier family resort destination in the Asia.
General Manager, Siegfried Boerst, said with the combination of a theme park, water park and a hotel, Asia’s first Legoland resort wanted visitors to spend more time inside.
The RM720 million theme park, with 40 interactive rides, shows and attractions, celebrated is first year anniversary last Sunday.
Boerst said it has been an extremely successful year with the number of visitors far exceeded its expectation of a million.
“It has been a huge success,” he told Bernama in an interview.
He said with the water park and the hotel opening up, Legoland wanted to market the resort as the premier family destination in South-East Asia.
“We want people to come here and spend two to three days to visit other destinations that are nearby. We want to make it attractive for visitors from China, India, Australia to spend some time in Malaysia,” he said.
Boerst said Legoland Malaysia was working closely with Tourism Malaysia and other agencies to promote Visit Malaysia Year 2014.
On the Legoland Hotel, which was expected to open in December to cater to holiday season in Malaysia and Singapore, he said, all the 249 family rooms had different Legoland themes.
“We want to extend the Legoland experience to the rooms,” he said, adding that they were working hard with their contractors and partners to make sure the hotel will start to receive the guests during the December holiday period.
