KOTA KINABALU, Aug 24- The Education Ministry would study the suggestion by Sabah Umno deputy liaison chairman Datuk Salleh Said Keruak to lend more clout to the Sabah Education department.
Education deputy minister Datuk Mary Yap Kain Ching said such input and idea would be given consideration in the implementation of the Malaysian Education Blueprint 2013-2025.
“I believe the Education Ministry will take note and study the suggestion,” she told reporters today during her visit to the Yayasan Sabah College (KYS) branch campus in Likas near here.
Salleh who is also State Legislative Assembly Speaker said on Tuesday that the initiative was necessary to facilitate implementation of various projects and programmes to improve education in the state particularly concerning rural schools where students’ assessment results had been less encouraging.
Meanwhile, Mary Yap said she would follow up on the state government and Yayasan Sabah’s aspiration to upgrade the college to university college status.
In this regard, she noted the progress achieved by KYS in its role to produce skilled manpower for the state through offering various technical and vocational courses.
KYS chief executive officer Dr Dayang Aminah Ali said the RM100 million proposed university college sited near the existing KYS Sembulan city campus was expected to be completed at the end of this year.
“If everything goes well, the new building can accommodate 5,000 students at one time,” she said.
