THIRUVANANTHAPURAM (Kerala) Sept 3 – The country’s first plant museum will soon be set up near southern Indian state Kerala’s capital Thiruvananthapuram, Press Trust of India (PTI) reported.
Sources said the museum provides information on a variety of plants ranging from those dating back to early civilisation to genetically modified ones.
The museum will be located at the famed Jawaharlal Nehru Tropical Botanical Garden (JNTBGRI), a rich repository of a wide variety of flora at Palode near the state capital.
It will provide opportunity for visitors to learn about the history of botanic gardens and their role in plant conservation.
Major attractions include displays on plant fossils, flora featured in Indian classics and conservation efforts.
Other features include a fossil garden, botanist gallery, an Indian timber library and a theatre-cum-seminar complex.
The museum will also have sections for botanical and historical paintings, sources added.
