LIMA, Sept 3 – More than 20,000 tourists are expected to arrive in Lima this coming week to attend the Mistura food festival from Sept 6-15.
Among this number are both international and domestic tourists, all looking to get a taste of Lima’s famous cuisine.
The majority of foreigners attending the festival are professional chefs, food journalists, and student chefs, Peruthisweek.com reported quoting El Comercio.
Mistura is expected to receive more than 500,000 people between Sept. 6 – 15. The fairgrounds, made of 11 hectares of seaside land in Magdalena del Mar, have the capacity to host 22,000 visitors at a time.
Some 140 food vendors and 1,600 tables will welcome fairgoers, offering a wide variety of foods from all over the country and more than 500 producers from different parts of Peru will take part in the Gran Mercado, where visitors can purchase a number of different fresh and processed food products.
Mistura’s organizers are urging potential attendees to take public transportation to the fair, as parking space is limited. As 40,000 people are expected to attend Mistura each day, authorities have worked hard to ensure adequate transportation facilities for guests.
The Metropolitano public bus system has set up a special route to take fairgoers to and from the fair, and Mistura-approved taxis with standardized rates will also be available.
Authorities have also highlighted the safety measures that have been taken in order to protect guests from any potential danger. 561 police will be present at the fair, and the district of Magdalena has also installed security cameras in various locations near Mistura’s grounds.
