KOTA KINABALU, Sept 5 – The Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) will be getting new assets soon to increase its capability, Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Thursday.
He said some of the assets had already been bought, particularly for surveillance purposes, and were awaiting shipment.
“Shipment might take a while as some of the assets were purchased overseas. I will personally inspect the quality of these assets,” he told reporters after presenting the National Sovereignty Medals to 56 security personnel who were engaged in the ‘Operasi Daulat’ offensive against terrorists in Lahad Datu earlier this year.
Ahmad Zahid also said that the police force planned to build eight new police stations within the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone).
At the moment, he said, cabins were used as temporary police stations and he hoped to receive a financial allocation for the construction of those police stations soon.
Ahmad Zahid also said that his ministry would be looking into upgrading dilapidated police stations and living quarters in Sabah.
