IPOH, Sept 10- Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir has advised those offering themselves as candidates in the Umno election next month to make a self-evaluation first.
The reminder was directed at Umno members who intend to offer themselves as candidates in the contest for seats in the Umno Supreme Council (MT) in the party election in October.
The Perak Umno Liaison chairman said those planning to contest should think whether they would be accepted into the party leadership lineup or otherwise.
“Those who no longer can contest should not do so…sometimes, the people are fed up. The younger generation are watching the antics of these people.
“We have had our time. Let us not tussle for posts,” he told Bernama in an exclusive interview here.
Zambry said the opportunity should be given to the other party members with potentials to be chosen into the leadership lineup.
He said he maintained his stand of opting out of the contest although there were groups who had said that he should contest to gauge his influence in the party.
“This is not a question of influence. To me, what is most important is to chart a new form of politics and new practices in Umno.
“Let people like me…we as chairmen of the State Umno Liaison Bodies who are automatic members of the MT (Supreme Council) stay out of the contest,” he said.
The election for the Umno MT seats is scheduld for Oct 19.
