KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 13- Umno members have been reminded not to take advantage on delegates’ meetings to make demands or complaints, to the extent of causing the meetings to be cancelled, in a bid to achieve personal agenda.
Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, said this was because Umno Supreme Council would still have the final say about everything as stipulated by the party’s constitution and laws.
“Some of the complaints received by the committee were meant to tarnish the image of a certain member, branch or division. Some were so unreasonable and were clearly made with the intention to cancel the meetings,” he said in a statement here Thursday.
He said they had also received some information about members at the divisional level being involved in unethical activities, including money politics.
“I would really remind those who are involved in such unethical activities that stern action awaits them, including membership suspension,” he said.
“However, the complaint must be verified by the division Umno chief and secretary before further investigation be carried out by the state Umno liaison committee,” he said.
He said they had also identified problems concerning Umno in several states, including Penang, Kelantan and Perak, and said that the committee was in the midst of finding the best suitable solutions to the problems.
On the clean-up of the party membership register following the amendment of Umno constitution on Oct 15, 2009, Tengku Adnan said all members, branch and division should check their membership status to avert unnecessary problems.
“It is also important to verify the lists of Umno members held by the division and the headquarters,” he added.
