AU Condemns Terrorist Attack In Nairobi

ADDIS-ABABA, Sept 23 – The African Union (AU) has strongly condemned “the terrorist attack” perpetrated on Saturday in Kenya’s capital Nairobi against innocent civilians, Algeria’s Press Service (APS) reported.

_70048371_70048370AU “condemns in the strongest terms the ignoble terrorist attack” perpetrated against innocent civilians in at a shopping center in Nairobi which caused many deaths, said the organisation in a communique released on Sunday.

“This cowardly attack stresses again the need to renew and reinforce efforts to fight against terrorism throughout the continent,” underlined AU, reiterating its commitment “to continuing efforts to reach this goal with member states and international partners.”

AU, which expressed solidarity with Kenyan government and people, reaffirmed its determination to intensify efforts in fighting against terrorism continent-wide and pursue the action in order to guarrantee stability in Somalia and fight against Al-Shabab through its Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

The Kenyan Interior minister, Joseph Ole Lenku, said that at least 59 persons were killed and 175 others injured in the attack which targeted the Westgate Mall in Nairobi.
