THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, India, Sept 27- Congress President and United Progressive Alliance Chairperson Sonia Gandhi will inaugurate two major initiatives of the Health Department in south Indian state Kerala.
Sonia Gandhi is coming for a two-day visit to the state capital on Sept 29, Press Trust of India (PTI) reported.
According to Health Minister V S Sivakumar, she would launch the scheme called ‘Arogyakiranam’ — which ensures free medical care to all children for all ailments till they are 18 years — and distribution of free generic drugs in all government hospitals.
The scheme would come into effect from Oct 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
Arogyakiranam is the State’s version of the Rashtriya Bai Swasthya Karyakram (RESK), a new national programme under the National Rural Health Mission(NRHM), offering a comprehensive health package for children up to 18 years.
