GEORGE TOWN, Sept 28 – Two Penang DAP leaders today announced that they will not be contesting in the re-election of the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC), during the party’s special congress here Sunday.
Datuk Keramat assemblyman Jagdeep Singh Deo and Seri Delima assemblyman RSN Rayer said they made the decision in order to respect the mandate given by the delegates in the last party election and for the sake of party unity.
“I respect the mandate given to our elected representatives in the December (2012) election. Let me make it clear, as the result of that mandate, the DAP, one of the component parties of the Pakatan Rakyat, fared the best in the last general election,” Jagdeep said at a joint press conference with Rayer which was called to announce their stand, here Saturday.
On Thursday, Penang DAP Youth chief Ng Wei Aik had also announced that he will not to be contesting in the CEC re-election.
