PROJEK KHAS BERITA HARIAN / ISU PASIR SELANGORKuala Lumpur, Oct 12 – The Pan-Malaysia Lorry Owners’ Association 1987 (PMLOA) Central Committee has decided to rescind the decision to raise transportation charges by 15 per cent with immediate effect.

In a statement here today, PMLOA said pursuant to the decision of the PMLOA Central Committee on Sept 25, all PMLOA members were required to cease and desist from implementing or further implementing the said decision.

“All lorry owners or enterprises which are part of PMLOA or any of its PMLOA’s member associations should make their own independent decision as to what changes, if any, are to be made to their transportation charges,” it said. On Sept 11, PMLOA issued a statement stating its unanimous decision to raise transportation charges by 15 per cent, but on Oct 4 directed its members to

cease and desist from implementing the higher charges.

The decision was made in response to the notice of Proposed Interim Measures issued by the Malaysia Competition Commission (MyCC) under Section 35(4) of the Competition Act 2010 against the PMLOA members and related lorry enterprises on a probable infringement of Section 4(2)(a) of the act by agreeing to fix an increase in transportation charges by 15 per cent.

PMLOA also said that it had never intended to prevent, restrict or distort competition in the market in reaching the said decision.

“Nevertheless, there are concerns that the decision may have or is likely to

infringe the provisions of the Competition Act 2010,” it said.
