New Delhi, Oct 14 – More than 300 cases of sexual harassment and crimes against women are pending before the Supreme Court, Press Trust of India (PTI) reported.
According to the Supreme Court’s reply in response to a Right to Information (RTI) inquiry filed by Pune-based activist Vihar Dhurve, 325 cases of sexual harassment and cruelty against women including 150 regular ones are pending in the court.
The Supreme or Apex Court said in addition to the above, 403 matters relating to harassment, kidnapping and abduction are also pending.
Dhurve had sought to find out details of pending cases in the Supreme Court which have been assigned to fast track courts.
“There is no fast track court defined and year-wise the pending matters in regard to the subject category are not maintained,” the court said.
The Supreme Court said 472 corruption cases, 588 road accidents involving permanent disability and 45 for other injuries as well as 418 cases of divorce and 39 atrocities on Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes are also pending.
An overwhelming number of 8,490 litigations related to land acquisition in various parts of the country are also pending before the court, it said.
