Chennai, Oct 28 – India is planning to promote eco-friendly buildings as part of its national policy, Press Trust of India (PTI) reported.
Arun Kumar Mishra, Union Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, said the central government is finalising a draft policy on non-financial incentives to promote green buildings.
The goverment will hold dialogue with State governments on incentives for green buildings and plans to build a million houses in the next four years as part of its housing programmes, Arun said at the “Green Building Congress-2013” held here.
“We have made it part of our instructions that any block, any State, any municipality that wants to construct these [green] buildings will be covered by our project expenditure,” he said.
The central government is also looking at entering a memorandum of understanding with the Indian Green Building Council to promote energy saving green technology.
