Yan, Oct 29 – Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Mukhriz Tun Dr Mahathir has proposed Gurun State Assemblyman Dr Leong Yong Kong as state exco to fill the MCA quota after receiving an official letter from the party.
He said Dr Leong’s position depended on an official letter from MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek based on the party’s extraordinary general meeting resolutions on Oct 20, which allowed MCA members to accept state government appointments.
Kedah has set aside one portfolio vacant for MCA, following the party’s annual general assemblies in 2011 and 2012 which prohibited its members from holding posts in the government, should the party fare badly in the 13th General Election.
Mukhriz said that after receiving the letter from MCA, he would seek an audience with the Sultan of Kedah Regency Council chairman Tan Sri Tunku Annuar Sultan Badlishah for the consent to appoint a new exco member.
“Earlier, I wrote to the MCA president on the whether the state government could appoint an MCA member as exco.
Meanwhile, in a visit to the Barisan Nasional Sungai Limau by-election operations room near here on Monday, Mukhriz gave his assurance that the state government under his leadership would be fair to all races.
However, he said there were parties manipulating facts to raise suspicions among the various races in the state.
