Straight Fights For Top Posts Of MIC Wings

Kuala Lumpur, Nov 8 – Two MIC wings – Youth and Wanita – will see a straight fight for their respective top posts.

The current MIC deputy youth leader V.Mugilan will challenge the current wing secretary C.Sivaraajh for the movement’s Number One post in the Nov 16 polls for the two wings.

An intense fight is also expected for the Wanita chief post between national women’s secretary M.Vickneswari and Mohana Muniandy, an MIC central working committee (CWC) member.

Both the MIC Youth and Wanita MIC chief posts fell vacant after the incumbents, Datuk T. Mohan and Datin Paduka Komala Krishnamoorthy, decided not to defend their posts.

Nominations for the two wings closed at noon (started at 10am) at MIC headquarters here Friday.

The contenders for the various posts in the two wings was announced by the party’s secretary-general A.Sakthvel, who also acted as returning officer, after an hour long objection period ended.

As for the deputy youth chief post, it will see a three-cornerned fight between Melaka state deputy youth leader and lawyer Sashi Kumar Kannan, MIC Youth legal bureau head R. Thinalan and Kedah MIC Youth exective council member K. Somasundaram.

The Wanita deputy chief post, meanwhile, will involve a battle between Tapah division women’s wing leader P.Prema and Pagoh Division women’s leader K. Nirmala.

Some 560 delegates from each of the wings will vote for their respective leaders for the next three-year term.

The polls will also see the Wanita and Youth wings elect two representatives each for the CWC, 12 national council members and 35 delegates to the main MIC general assembly scheduled on Nov 30 in Melaka.
