Najib To Lead Malaysian Delegation To CHOGM 2013 In Sri Lanka

Kuala Lumpur, Nov 12 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will lead the Malaysian delegation to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2013 in Colombo, Sri Lanka from Nov 15 to 17.

He will be accompanied by his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman and senior officials from the Prime Minister’s Department, Foreign Ministry, International Trade and Industry Ministry, Youth and Sports Ministry and the Economic Planning Unit.

A Wisma Putra statement issued Tuesday said the theme of the meeting, “Growth with Equity: Inclusive Development”, was timely as the global community was currently facing pronounced income and economic wealth distribution disparities.

The meeting is expected to discuss measures to overcome current and future challenges in order to achieve development that is inclusive, equitable and sustainable.

The Commonwealth heads of government will also study the global situation and current economic development as well as discuss current issues.

These include democracy, good governance, sustainable development, debt management, the Millennium Development Goals and post-2015 development framework, education, environment, gender equality, health, ICT, multilateral trade, the small nations and issues related to youth.

A CHOGM 2013 communique will be issued at the end of the meeting.

Najib and Anifah are also expected to hold bilateral talks with their respective counterparts on issues of common interest.

CHOGM is held biennially to discuss global issues and those of the Commonwealth as well as to make joint decisions on policies and initiatives.
