Nov 13- Move over orange. The kiwi fruit has dethroned other contenders in the world of Vitamin C to get the top position, as a new study by the University of Otago, New Zealand.
Not only is the kiwi fruit richer in its Vitamin C content than the average orange, it is loaded with anti-oxidants, Vitamin E, flavonoids and carotenoids. The nutrient dense brown and green fruit also has anti-ageing properties.
The C vitamin promotes the growth of collagen, necessary for maintaining the elasticity of skin. Vitamin K and E, protect skin from degeneration. Also high in alpha hydroxy acids, “Using kiwi topically on the skin is a great idea to detoxify the skin and keep wrinkles at bay,” says Suparna Trikha, natural beauty expert, New Delhi. Here are two of her signature face pack recipes:
Kiwi face mask for dry, dehydrated and mature skin
Ingredients
1. 20 ground almonds
2. 1 kiwi, pulped
3. 1 egg white
4. 2 tsp milk
Mix these and apply to clean skin. Leave on for 5 to 7 minutes and wash off with milk first and then water.
Kiwi body scrub for all skin types to clean, moisturise and nourish skin
Ingredients
1. 4 kiwi, pulped
2. 200 g oatmeal
3. 100 g almond powder
4. 50 g orange peel powder
5. 50 ml rose water
Add enough full fat milk to make a smooth paste. Blend all and use it as a thick paste. Use it to exfoliate your body including dry zones like elbows and knees.
