Petaling Jaya, Nov 19 – An Indonesian security guard was charged in the Magistrates Court here Tuesday, with firing at and murdering an AmBank officer in Subang Jaya last month.
No plea was recorded however from La Ode Ardi Rasila, 36, who was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
On the first count he is accused of killing Norazita Abu Talib, 37, at the AmBank building, No. 5 and 7, Jalan USJ Sentral 2, Subang Jaya here between 6 and 6.30 pm on Oct 23.
The second count involves robbing the bank and firing at Norazita with a Pump Gun with the intention of causing her death at the same time and place, under Section 3 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, which also carries a mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
Magistrate K.B. Elena Hong Tze Lan allowed the prosecution’s application to transfer both the cases to the Shah Alam High Court which has the jurisdiction to hear murder trials.
The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Mohd Azari Harun and Mohd Asyraf Md Kamal, while the accused was unrepresented.
Norazita was shot dead at close range by one of the bank’s security guard while she was opening a safe in the vault, after which he made off with RM450,000.
On Nov 11, police found a pump gun, suspected of being the murder weapon, in a drain at Jalan Subang 2, Subang Industrial Park, not far from the bank.
