Manila, Nov 27 – Tyhoon Haiyan’s death toll in central Philippines has soared to 5,500 by Wednesday, Xinhua news agency reports the Philippine state agency as saying.
As another 260 bodies were retrieved from typhoon affected areas, the number of casualties rose from 5,240 to 5,500, the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council announced at 6 a.m. Wednesday.
Among the latest victims, 207 came from Tacloban city, 46 from other parts of Leyte province and seven from neighbouring Samar province.
A total of 1,757 people remain missing and 26,136 injured.
