Kuala Lumpur, Nov 27 – In an about-face in less than 24 hours, the MIC has given the green light to 38 of its national Youth delegates to vote at the party’s national election on Nov 30, in contrast to prohibiting them yesterday, from voting at the election.

The decision was made after an emergency meeting convened by the party’s management committee headed by MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel, at the party’s headquarters this morning.

Announcing the about-turn, party secretary-general A. Sakthivel said:

“The phantom voter (who is reportedly overseas) whose identity card was used during the (recent) (national) Youth election voting, has been sacked while the (existence of) nine delegates who are bankrupt does not change the result.

“Therefore, the 38 delegates are allowed to vote at the party’s national elections to elect three vice-presidents and 23 central working committee (CWC) members on Nov 30 in Melaka.”

On Tuesday, 38 MIC Youth delegates, including recently-elected Youth chief C. Sivarraajh, were prohibited from voting at the party’s national election due to irregularities.

Meanwhile, Youth chief C. Sivarraajh has thanked the MIC leadership for making the right decision to reinstate him and the 37 Youth delegates.

“I hope such incidents do not recur since a wrong decision has been rectified. A good and right decision has been achieved for the future of the party,” he told reporters in a press conference at the party headquarters here.

Sivarraajh also promised that his Youth wing would work harder with the top leadership to create a better future for the Indian community, as well as increase their trust on the party.
